AGE VIII.webp

AGE VIII - THE FALL OF ROMULUS

The dream breaks. Conflict consumes Romulus. Traitor Chapters turn upon one another. The Proto-Legion collapses. Bloodlust X remains loyal but is destroyed alongside the Legion it helped build. The founding Chapter is lost. The first Legion is lost. The Imperium survives. But something changes. Expansion ceases. Certainty vanishes. The roads remain. The monuments remain. The city remains. But the future no longer appears guaranteed. This becomes the defining historical wound of Blacksky.

Historical Record

No age before this one had prepared the Imperium for loss on such a scale. The Golden Age had promised limitless possibility. The Age of Legions had carried that promise beyond the walls of Aternum. Romulus stood as the embodiment of that ambition. It was the first Legion. The proof that the Imperium could extend its reach beyond the capital and maintain unity across distant frontiers. For a time, it appeared unstoppable. Then the dream began to fracture. Internal conflict spread throughout Romulus.

Chapters that had once marched beneath the same banners turned upon one another. Loyalties splintered. Trust eroded. What had been built through years of effort began to unravel from within. The conflict consumed the Legion. One by one, the bonds that held Romulus together broke apart. In the chaos that followed, the Proto-Legion collapsed. Among those caught within its fall was Bloodlust X. The founding Chapter of the Imperium remained loyal to the ideals upon which it had been built, but loyalty alone could not save it. Bloodlust X perished alongside the Legion it had helped create, becoming both a symbol of devotion and a casualty of the tragedy that consumed Romulus. The loss reverberated throughout the Imperium. The first Legion was gone. The founding Chapter was gone. For the first time in its history, Blacksky was forced to confront the reality that even its greatest achievements could be lost. Yet the Imperium endured. Aternum still stood.

The Hall of Dread still endured beneath the city. The Archives still preserved the memory of what had happened. The Blackguard remained vigilant. The institutions survived. But something fundamental had changed. The certainty that had defined the previous ages disappeared. The belief that the Imperium's future was guaranteed vanished with it. The roads leading from Aternum no longer represented endless opportunity. They became reminders of what had been lost beyond the horizon.

Legacy

The Fall of Romulus became the defining wound of Imperial history. The loss of the Proto-Legion ended an age of expansion and confidence that had lasted generations. The destruction of Bloodlust X transformed the founding Chapter into legend. Future generations would remember this age not because the Imperium fell. But because it survived. The monuments remained. The roads remained. Aternum remained. Yet every stone of the city carried the memory of what had been lost. The dream of a greater Imperium had not died. But it had been broken. And the ages that followed would be shaped by the consequences of that fracture.
